I’m Guest Posting Today at DeCompose!

This is a piece that’s been stewing for a while and begging to be written:Confessions of a Submissive Rebel, in which I discuss why the New Testament authors are so adamant that we obey our authorities.

  1. Good article.

Doncha think though that Jesus and the NT is one long record of defying conventional authority in favor of a higher one? From Jesus, through the Acts/Apostles, even in the epistles, a major requirement of our calling seems to be the command, the obligation to hold fast, stand up for what is true, right in the face of opposition.

    1. I was trying to make sense of that in light of Paul’s and Peter’s commands to honor or submit to authority. The post was too long, so I cut out passages in which I had discussed the ways Jesus defied authority in order to obey the ultimate authority of his Father. The Bible is full of examples of rebels, to be honest–from cover to cover–people who rebel against God, and people who rebel against man in order to honor God.
